You can't do anything alone, you have to do it together

After more than twenty years of experience in supply chain and purchasing in Ireland, Singapore and Hong Kong, among others, I am back in the Netherlands. Back also to the wonderful consultant profession. I use my knowledge and experience as a principal consultant for the customers of ARV Group.

True top sport is practiced in the supply chains of the manufacturing industry. The ball is played in an extremely dynamic manner from back to front throughout the organization. Improvements can be made time and time again between players and links and new successes can be achieved by organizing processes and systems efficiently. But especially by training people and letting them think about how things can be done differently, smarter and better again and again, because as Johan Cruijff once said: 'You will only see it when you realize it'. A clear strategy, the right people in the right place and effective communication are essential. Just like wanting to understand each other and pursue common goals in teamwork. It is often a matter of everyone finding the right rhythm and optimal flow. Only together can you make optimal use of the playing field within the supply chain.

The importance of priorities, relationships and collaboration

Within the entire supply chain, I think purchasing is a striking example of how important a shared approach to the game is. With careful category management you determine the balance within and between product portfolios. Based on this, you choose your suppliers and determine with whom you will maintain which relationships and how intensively you will play the purchasing and sales game with each other. You develop a shared vision together with your most important suppliers, determine joint goals and achieve carefully coordinated cooperation. Such a strong relationship also offers you the opportunity to exchange valuable knowledge and experience and always bring out the best in each other. There is often a lot to be gained based on a shared vision, common interest and carefully coordinated cooperation. There is nothing better than being able to celebrate successes together, after which the spirit to take on new challenges together only continues to grow.

Consulting and coaching, your own approach to the game

The profession of consultant also requires a well-considered approach. The variety of playing fields and conditions requires a fresh look every time. The organization explores opportunities for improvement and senses opportunities to score, but is still looking for how these can actually be capitalized on. That is where the consultant's challenge lies. I feel at home at ARV Group. This is mainly due to our consultancy approach. We do not step on board with our customers with our own large team and take over the wheel, on the contrary. One consultant is often enough, after which team expansion can always follow if necessary. Collaboration is also our shared concept of the game. Collaboration with the management of our customers. And collaboration with the people who can make a difference in daily practice, the operation. Together with them, new insights, unexpected perspectives and sometimes surprisingly rapid breakthroughs are achieved. It provides the energy needed to initiate changes and improvements. Ownership is also often many times greater for something you have helped build yourself. How did Cruyff say that again? “You can't do anything alone, you have to do it together.”

Nice to meet you!
